Nuvi 765T Reviews

Diarsipkan di bawah: GPS — electronic88 at 10:09 am on Kamis, Januari 14, 2010

Garmin may not have the ubiquitous branding of TomTom here in Europe, but the company has actually been in the navigation business a couple of years longer. Its experience is obvious in the solid build and careful design of its products. This is particularly true of the nüvi 765T, which is an update to the nüvi 765T we looked at earlier in the year.

For starters, the Garmin Nuvi 765T marks Garmin’s leap onto the ‘lane guidance’ bandwagon. The corner graphic showing your next turning already illustrates quite clearly which lanes you should be in on a multi-lane carriageway. But Garmin has now also added a trendy realistic full-screen lane graphic to show more clearly where your car should be positioned on the road.

We didn’t find it popped up quite as often as TomTom’s version, as found in the GO 530 and 930, but it’s still very helpful.
The 765 also allegedly sports 3D building graphics, using City Navigator’s Europe NT 2009 3D database. However, as with Navman’s implementation on the S30 3D, this doesn’t include enough landmarks to be useful. In fact, we didn’t come across any 3D landmarks during testing. One final new feature is the ability to navigate to geotagged photos that have been imported into the device.

So the updates are not major, but then the Garmin Nuvi 765T was already a feature-packed model. Included in the price are full European maps and these are the 2009 edition of City Navigator Europe NT from Navteq, so are the very latest currently available. As this is the T version, it also includes built-in traffic updates via TMC-RDS, with a lifetime subscription. This information is helpfully displayed by colouring nearby jammed roads red, so you can easily avoid them, with a small icon showing expected traffic delay on your current route.

However, the Garmin’s best feature of all is just how easy it is to use. Navman’s interface does the job but can be cluttered, whilst TomTom’s packs a lot in but isn’t the most aesthetic and its menu system can be extremely complicated. Garmin, on the other hand, has created a simple but effective view where roads and routes are clearly distinguished. Onscreen clutter is kept to a minimum, with messages popping up only when needed.

Eureka Enviro Steamer

Diarsipkan di bawah: Home and garden — electronic88 at 7:41 pm on Sabtu, Januari 2, 2010  Tagged , ,

When Eureka came out with the deluxe version of their Enviro Steamer
we decided to give it another trial and put it out for panel review.
This time it was in the middle of winter and we chose three problem
areas to put the Enviro-steamer through its paces. A furnace room with
a vinyl floor, a bathroom with a tile floor, a room with a vinyl floor
primarily used to house a cat litter box. All these areas had not been
cleaned, their shame-faced owners admitted in “nearly a year”. We also
threw in a kitchen tile floor that was similarly filthy, [yes let's be
frank here]. So we reckoned these were a fitting challenge for the
Enviro-steamer.

Pluses
Having been somewhat half hearted in our review last year of the standard Enviro-steamer
steam cleaner
, we were pleasantly surprised with this one. The
improvements in the deluxe version were sorely needed, but Eureka did
come up with solutions.

This steam cleaner can be assembled fast and quickly without even
referring to the manual. It heats up fast and the new side clips hold
the waffle cloth firmly in place. Thoughtfully, Eureka provides a replacement cloth with every steam cleaner kit, and the cloths are sturdy and will last a while.

The new “ready” and “empty” warning lights on the machine are just
plain good common sense, and the steam cleaner, while only lasting 15
minutes before needing a refill, nevertheless cools down quickly and
refilling seemed painless and fast.

So how did the Enviro Steamer
rise to the challenge? Well it certainly cut through a tremendous
amount of ground in dirt quickly and painlessly in all four rooms.
Using vapor steam, a boon for those with chemical sensitivities, the
machine lifted up more dirt than we care to mention. The waffle cloth
absorbed a tremendous amount before it needed washing and replacing.

The Enviro Steamer is no longer available. We suggest our new steam mop.

Minuses
We were tackling the grimiest of jobs. However, we found
that when the waffle cloth got full of dirt, it was inconvenient,
compared to a squeeze mop and a bucket of hot water, to wash the cloth
and put back a clean one. This wouldn’t be an issue with most normally
dirty floors but our cloth needed to be replaced on the end of the
steam cleaner head several times, otherwise we were just pushing around
dirty water. You have to really go to a sink to rinse out the cloth and
you need to turn off the steam cleaner as you take the cloth off, and
then start it up again on return. We thought later that it might have
been more convenient to take a bucket of clean water along with us to
rinse out the cloths, but we were trying to avoid that extra step.

The steam in the machine also can take the shine off some vinyl
floors, (there is a warning about this in the manual), and it did in
fact reduce the shine a little on one of our floors.

The Enviro Steamer is no longer available. We suggest our new steam mop.

Summary
We liked the Eureka Enviro Steamer. We can see that this
steam cleaner could become a favorite household-cleaning tool, since
floor cleaning with it is virtually effortless and it is the ultimate
in hygiene. We feel it is best suited for tile floors.

Keurig B60 Single Serve Coffee Maker Review

Diarsipkan di bawah: Tak Berkategori — electronic88 at 3:14 pm on Kamis, Desember 31, 2009  Tagged , , ,

The Keurig B60 is designed to make single serving hot beverages using the Keurig K-cup system. The B-60 makes it easy to brew single cups of coffee, tea and hot chocolate with no muss and no fuss. The 48 ounce reservoir makes up to 8 cups of coffee without refilling, and is removable for easy filling and cleaning. The B-60 offers a couple of features that aren’t available on the lower cost B20 and B40, including the choice of three cup sizes for your coffee – the 9.25 serving size is ideal for travel mugs – and an adjustable temperature setting that lets you set the water temperature from 187 degrees to 192 degrees in one degree increments. In addition, you have full control over brewing time so that you can have your coffee just the way you like it.

The Keurig B60 also features a removable drip tray for easy cleaning, and a programmable blue backlit LCD display with digital clock and an on/off timer to set the Keurig to brew on your schedule. The machine is stylish and sleek, with a black body, steel drip tray and chrome face plate and handle. The sleek design will fit right in to any contemporary or modern style kitchen – but don’t let that deter you from getting one if your kitchen is more homespun or traditional.

Using the Keurig B60 couldn’t be simpler. You simply fill the coffee reservoir, reattach it to the body and turn the machine on. When the blue display reads “Ready to Brew”, you lift the chrome handle, drop a Keurig K-cup in and close the lid. In just about one minute, you’ll have a fresh, steaming cup of hot coffee, ready to drink.

Specifications:
Product: Keurig B-60 Single Serve Coffee Maker
Type: 1500 watt brewing system for hot beverages
Size: 13 1/4″ by 10″ by 13″
Weight: 16 lbs

Features:
Programmable backlit display, removable drip tray, removable 48 ounce water reservoir; Three cup sizes for brewing; Customizable temperature settings
Uses: K-cups and My K-cup reusable coffee filter
Includes: 18 pack variety K-cups; My K-cup coffee filter

Pros:
The Keurig B-60 has a lot to recommend it. The temperature control allows you to set the coffee brewing temperature to your desired setting – which can make a surprising difference in the flavor of the coffee. The three brew sizes allow you to make anywhere from a teacup size serving to a travel mug full of coffee. Since the amount of water affects the strength of the brew, you’ll find that the flavor varies with the size, but other than that, you can expect a consistently good cup of coffee from the Keurig B-60.

One of the biggest pros for the Keurig B-60 is the wide variety of K-cups available to use with it. Keurig features well over 100 varieties of coffee, tea and hot chocolate for use with their coffee brewing system including such stellar names as Starbucks, Green Mountain Roasters, Timothy’s and Gloria Jean. Even better, the My K-cup reusable coffee filter can be used with your favorite brand of coffee so you’re not confined to the K-cup choices.

One of the nicer small pros for the Keurig B60 is the height of the brew platform. There’s enough clearance under the brew spout to fit most travel cups, which is a nice plus. Other single cup machines with lower clearance require that you brew your coffee into a regular mug and then pour it into your travel mug.

And finally, the Keurig B60 is the ultimate in convenience. There’s very little cleanup – no pot, no carafe, no coffee filter, unless you opt for the My K-cup which rinses clean easily. The machine itself will tell you when it needs to be descaled – and descaling is as simple as running a brew cycle with vinegar to remove an limescale or calcification from the machine’s innards.

Cons:
The coffee may be a little weak for those who prefer espresso or dark roast coffees. The solution? Keurig’s Dark Magic from Green Mountain Roasters or another dark roast coffee makes a strong, rich cup of coffee.

The Final Verdict:
The Keurig B-60 is an ideal coffee maker for a family that likes its coffee one cup at a time. The wide variety of K-cups available means that everyone in the family can have the hot beverage that they like best in as little as a minute.

Zune HD AV Dock Reviews

Diarsipkan di bawah: Zune HD — electronic88 at 7:49 am on Selasa, Desember 15, 2009  Tagged ,

Well I just learned something new, in my impulse to get a Zune HD dock, I chose this one, but after reading the review here and researching it, well, I would’ve saved the $40 by only getting the USB Sync Dock. The USB Sync Dock has the same remote, HD radio antenna, and USB cable - which is basically all that you need.

For the record, I will state the old Zune a/v dock (Zune 30, 4, 8, 80, 120gb) still works with the new Zune HD - just no HD output and NO FM antenna and it won’t auto go to TV-Output - this means you’ll have to manually set this everytime, if you have an LCD in your car and want to output the awesome Zune UI to your LCD.

I will also state the old Zune remote works with the new Zune HD A/v dock, even though it has 4 less ‘buttons’ - you can still do everything you need on the Zune HD. Also the NEW Zune HD remote (even though the old model remote works) is phenomenal with it’s range. The old remote you had to point directly at the docking station. The NEW Zune HD remote, I can turn the docking station around and put the remote in the opposite direction and it still works. I tried this with the Zune HD dock in my glove compartment and no, it didn’t work with it closed (just in case it was RF and not IR). But it did work with the glove box open. I can locate my Zune HD almost anywhere and the powerful new remote still works great.

One major design flaw of the old Zune a/v dock is that it didn’t have an FM Antenna if you used the a/v output composite cable. Improved in the Zune HD a/v dock is the inclusion of an FM antenna for picking up HD (and regular) stations. Once you listen to the free HD radio stations, you’ll never want to go back! Most stations in my city (Dallas, TX) have at least 2 HD stations (with different music) for the same frequency - HD radio rocks!

But the NUMBER ONE REASON to buy the USB Sync or HD A/V dock is the fact that TV-OUTPUT IS FIXED ! This means if you have an LCD screen in your car that accepts an AUX input (like my Alpine or friends’ Pioneer, etc) then whenever you turn the car on, it will auto-display on your LCD. I can’t tell you just how slick the UI on your LCD screen is. From the screensaver with the scrolling artist, song, and album art to the HD radio (now I have HD radio in my car), it looks like a high-end professional car system. What is also fixed is that if you terminate the USB power (turning the car off, assuming your cigarette lighter plug does not stay powered) it will auto-pause your Zune HD. If you start your car, it detects USB power, then remembers it was on TV-OUTPUT and auto does TV-OUTPUT after you start the car. You do need to press PLAY on the remote, but it starts exactly where it left off. I’m not sure when but the Zune HD goes to standby mode at some point when it is paused for a long time because I’ve left the Zune HD in the car for more than the 33 hours of the battery life and it is always fully charged even though my cigarette lighter power turns off.

Again, the NEW remote is amazingly more powerful than the old remote, so now I have a complete and very slick car setup.

The only bad thing is that when docked, well, there’s truly no way to get to the clock - the Alpine clock is shown on my Alpine LCD and is the only clock in my car, but when it is displaying the AUX input, you only see the Zune screens and nope, no more clock on any of the screens except on the screen lock.

I downloaded an HD movie from the Marketplace and watched it on my 61″ HDTV and wow, it looked just as good as BluRay DVDs.

DO REMEMBER, if you use composite video in your car and HDMI on your TV, you MUST turn the Zune off at least once when switching video-output-type, else it won’t automatically go to tv-output mode and you’ll have to manually go into Settings. For me, this is few and far between, so I’m not bothered by this - but there’s no documentation to tell you to do that. But this does mean, you could permanently leave a Zune HD in a car and always have it output to your LCD screen. Also, with the WIFI, you could always sync with your PC when you park your car in the garage.

Zune HD dock on standby lasts at least 72 something hours, though I need to test the max. I’ve only turned it completely off a couple of times while testing.

If this was the USB Sync Dock ($40 cheaper) that I had purchased I would give this 5 big stars, but since I’ve already purchased this and don’t truly need the power adapter and HDMI cable and composite cable, then I have to right this a 4 on overall value — I should’ve gotten only the USB sync dock.

Flip Ultra HD vs. Flip MinoHD

Diarsipkan di bawah: flip video camera — electronic88 at 8:44 am on Minggu, Desember 6, 2009  Tagged , ,

I previously owned the Flip MinoHD so this review is based on a comparison between the Flip MinoHD and the new Flip UltraHD.

After reading about the Flip UltraHD’s addition of an HDMI output, larger screen, and longer battery life I decided to sell my 4 month old Flip MinoHD and purchase the Flip UltraHD. Since the MinoHD is very sleek and diminutive in size, my first reaction to the UltraHD was that it was quite a bit larger and bulkier to hold, and has taken some time to get used to. However, unless you’ve used a MinoHD the larger size of the UlraHD will probably be less noticeable. I found the camera controls on the UltraHD to be slightly easier to operate vs. the touch sensitive buttons on the MinoHD. As far as video quality between the two, I compared two different videos and both are about the same, however, the colors appear to be slightly more vibrant with the UltraHD Camcorder.

If you are trying to decide which one to purchase, if maximum portability is important to you than the MinoHD is the better choice. Otherwise, if you’re looking compact camcorder with more features (HDMI output, replaceable batteries, longer record time) then you can’t go wrong with the UltraHD.

My ultimate wish is for Pure Digital/Cisco to introduce a MinoHD with all of same functionality as the UltraHD. Until then, the UltraHD is the all-around better choice.
